Brahms – Ein deutsches Requiem

"A German requiem" is the name under which Brahms wrote his requiem in vernacular language, no doubt a Protestant requiem because the texts refer mainly to Luther but above all a human requiem, with little talk of God and much of the soul. The two-piano version increases this intimacy and gives this leading work from German music a truly chamber music feel to it. The Bavarian Radio Choir and its musical director are working for the first time with Nicholas Angelich and Martin Helmchen on this exciting project, which is to be broadcast live on Radio Classique and Bayerischer Rundfunk.
